Constellations

A formal event celebrating the Loeb’s 30th anniversary, as well as the Loeb’s highlights catalog and the exhibition “What Now? (or Not Yet).” Students dressed on the theme of “constellations,” and enjoyed live music by FowlMouth, catered food from Twisted Soul, and an art raffle. There was a trivia night with additional chances to win tickets, and there were two van trips to the local Salvation Army to make transportation to thrift formal clothing accessible for all who received tickets.

A Celebration of the Loeb
Portrait Launch
Collaboration with Portrait

The Loeb had the pleasure of hosting the launch of Portrait, the first Asian students' magazine at Vassar. Starting off as a sub-committee project in Asian Students Alliance (ASA), Portrait seeks to create a platform for Asian-identifying students to share personal narratives around Asian identity through creative works.

Light in PHOCUS
Student Photographers Respond to Shape of Light

PHOCUS is Vassar's only student-led photography organization. We had the privilege of hosting their works in response to the Shape of Light special exhibition.

The Senses
Immersive Art Experiences at the Loeb

Senior Studio Art majors created multisensorial experiences with various pieces in the collection utilizing taste, touch, sound, sight, and smell such as a bed of fresh flowers for viewers to step on in front of Georgia O’Keeffe’s “Spring."

Yale Visit
Museum Committees Exchange Ideas!

In Spring 2019, the Student Committee met with the Programs Advisory Committee of Yale University Art Gallery. This meeting stemmed from the Committee's ongoing interest in connecting and exchanging ideas with academic museum student groups. We began the day by meeting the program advisory committee members, touring the museum, and ended by participating in a Yale Art Galley program and talking about museum work for and from students.

Life-Size Candyland
Collaboration with Big Night In (BNI)

Held on Valentine's Day, this event turned the galleries into a life-size boardgame with trivia questions on the artists and works in different paths for participants to make their way through!

Late Night Fright at the Loeb
Collaboration with the docents!

We paired up with the Loeb's Student Docents to create a Halloween costume contest! Visitors dressed up as paintings from the collection and we awarded prizes. Who do YOU think had the best costume?

Equinox
An on-campus installation

We were tasked with reviving Tony Smith's Equinox, a work that had long been in storage at the Loeb. The sculpture's new residence is in the Bridge for Laboratory Sciences, a location that we hope will bridge the arts and sciences.

Trash Art!
The Future of Yesterday's World

For the exhibition, The Future of Yesterday’s World, Vassar students were called upon to transform their trash into art to consider their own consumption of plastics and the role it plays in their day-to-day lives.

Cyanotypes!
Sun Pictures!

Inspired by the work of Anna Atkins in our galleries, students were able to learn about her process in a talk and then try their hand at making cyanotypes themselves!

Meditative Art
Meditations and Bob Ross Painting in the Sculpture Garden!

Follow the guided meditations of works from the Loeb's collection!
